Background

On Thursday, 4 June 2026, LuminaLeap Technologies conducted a half-day Digital Transformation Workshop for 35 Gauteng-based Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The workshop was organised by Ulwazi Resource Consulting in collaboration with the Gauteng Department of Economic Development.

The initiative was designed to empower MSMEs with practical digital skills and tools to help them strengthen their brands, improve their online visibility, and better position their businesses within the evolving digital economy.

Objective

The primary objective of the workshop was to equip participating MSMEs with practical knowledge and actionable strategies to effectively navigate the digital landscape. The programme aimed to help entrepreneurs understand how to build strong digital brands, utilise social media platforms strategically, and create impactful digital content that supports business growth and customer engagement.

Approach

The workshop was delivered through interactive and practical sessions focused on key areas of digital transformation for small businesses:

Session 1 – Digital Branding

Participants explored the fundamentals of digital branding, including how to establish a professional brand identity, maintain brand consistency across digital platforms, and position their businesses effectively within competitive markets.

Session 2 – Digital Marketing

This session introduced MSMEs to practical digital marketing strategies that can be implemented using affordable and accessible tools. Topics included audience targeting, online customer engagement, content planning, and platform selection for different business objectives.

Session 3 – Social Media Management

Attendees were guided through effective social media management techniques, including content scheduling, audience engagement, social media best practices, and using platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp Business to grow their businesses.

Session 4 – Digital Media Content Development

Participants received practical guidance on creating engaging digital content for marketing and communication purposes. The session covered visual content creation, basic design principles, mobile content production, and strategies for producing content that resonates with online audiences.

The training was facilitated by LuminaLeap Technologies’ Managing Director, Thabang Phala, who is an accredited ETDP SETA Facilitator, Assessor, and Moderator. He also serves as a mentor at The Innovation Hub’s eKasi Labs programme under the Gauteng Department of Economic Development.

Results

The workshop successfully enhanced participants’ understanding of digital transformation and its importance in modern business operations. MSMEs gained practical exposure to digital branding, marketing, and content development tools that can immediately be applied within their businesses.

Participants also developed a clearer understanding of how digital platforms can be leveraged to improve customer engagement, increase brand visibility, and support long-term business sustainability.
